You can reach the International Office by phone or by e-mail. In order to ensure smooth and, more importantly, fast communication, please contact our team directly rather than the treating physicians at University Hospital Cologne. That way, we can be certain that we can reply in German and English, Russian, Arabic, Turkish or Kazakh.
If you contact us by email or online, within 24 hours we will send you a confirmation that we have received your query. Your request will then be processed in a short time and you will receive a personal reply.
In order to provide you with a very precise offer, we will need to know which services you wish to make use of at University Hospital Cologne. We will also need your current medical records, such as test results, x-rays or ECG documents.
Regardless of whether you are looking for a diagnosis, a second opinion or therapy, we will provide you with an estimate based on your query and the information sent to us. In some cases, this estimate will only cover the diagnosis as a first step. If you also wish to be treated at University Hospital Cologne, these costs will be agreed to step by step and following the examination here in Cologne. After you have paid the first deposit, we will contact you and agree to the dates for your stay with us, we will draw up a schedule for medical services and send you all the documents needed so that you can apply for a visa.
You will be required to already pay the amount stated in the cost estimate as a first deposit before your arrival. Following the first examinations here in Cologne, you will receive another cost estimate for medical treatment. The deposit must be paid by bank transfer to the following account:
Medizinisches Versorgungszentrum des Universitätsklinikums Köln gGmbH
Account #: 1933720490
In exceptional cases, for instance, if you arrive within 24 hours, the deposit can be paid here directly by credit card or in cash. Please note that an additional fee of 3 % will be charged for credit card payments.
Even though our team at the International Office speaks several languages, it makes sense to send us German translations of your medical records. This not only makes it easier to consult with the treating physicians, it also means that we can get back to you faster. If necessary, we can also have you documents translated here in Cologne. Please note that in this case this could delay your arrival here.
In order to receive medical treatment in Germany, you may have to apply for a "visa for medical treatment". This visa is usually granted very quickly and allows you, if necessary , to extend the residence permit.
In order to apply for a medical visa, you will need an invitation as well as cost estimates and treatment schedules which we will send to your embassy in advance. When applying for a visa, you can list several accompanying persons as long as they are named in the invitation issued by the hospital. It is therefore important that you inform us immediately of the persons who will be accompanying you to Cologne and send us copies of the passports of all the people coming to Cologne with you. We will, of course, look after extending your visa if this should become necessary while you are staying with us.
The documents needed to apply for a visa vary from one country to the next. More detailed information is available from the German consulate in your home country and on the following websites:

Cologne has a relatively mild climate. In summer, temperatures rarely rise to more than around 24°C. In winter, temperatures seldom fall below -1°C. High humidity can, however, lead to muggy weather with heavy rain in the summer months. Before departing for Germany, please check the latest weather forecast and make sure to pack suitable clothing.
